Merson-ASG worked with Crossrail to develop and manufacture signage for a below ground platform mock-up. The full size mock-up gave Crossrail the opportunity to decide whether any design modifications were necessary prior to the main construction of new stations.
The mock-up was used to inform a number of key design decisions including the optimisation of platform signage to assist passengers during train entry and egress as well as the location of platform information displays.
As specialist rail signage contractors Merson-ASG was responsible for the development, manufacture and installation of all signage used in the Crossrail station mock-up. The project included the integration of line diagrams, wayfinding signs and wall-mounted signs as well as an 18m x 3m curved lightbox for the tunnel wall.
To further assist in the design process Merson-ASG manufactured the lightbox with a special dimmable lighting gear to allow for different illumination levels to be assessed. The different levels of illumination gave designers the ability to display signage that was clear but not overpowering within the platform environment.
